Photographs by Kenny Kenny

Opening Reception :
Saturday May 8. 2010 from 6-9pm
At Collective Gallery 173-171

Collective Gallery is proud to announce our next exhibition “Bon Vivant in New York”, featuring new photographs by New York based artist Kenny Kenny. The opening reception will be held at the Gallery on Saturday May 8th,6-9pm. Please join us.

This is the artist’s first solo exhibition at Collective Gallery.

The first series of 18 portraits:
Inspired by German expressionism, Kenny Kenny makes us share his shadow photographs and his nocturnal entourage of iconic creative characters. Kenny Kenny’s photographs are murky and gloomy as his dysfunctional Irish family. The dark portraits are people who are assuming their differences in our society of uniformity of gender, appearance and sexuality.  The photographs are an aesthetic creative recognition , a hymn to subversion to normalcy.

The second series of 22 moments:
Inspired by photo journalism, Kenny Kenny shoots instinctive photographs about creative dressed up night clubbers. He shows us a strong sense of identity, without reserve and effrontery on black and white paper, giving a voice to subculture. Who else could do it better than him?
“The micro groups/urban tribes are different from late capitalism’s corporate bourgeoisie cultures base on dispassionate logic”. Michel Maffesoli.
